Hello Group,

  My name is Jim Wolcott. I own N44TW, a Don Sargent G/L. I'm in the aerospace/mil-spec hardware industry and have extensive knowledge in seals and O-rings. I'm not trying to promote my business with this post but I feel I can help the group by offering a re-seal kit for the struts. I can put together the required kits for $45.00/ea. One kit will do two struts. (22.50/ea per strut) Each kit will include 2ea. Parker # 42081801437 B312 symmetrical lip seal and 12 Viton O-rings. The Viton is an upgrade from the MS28775-324 O-ring. Viton is impervious to almost any fluid used in aircraft and it has an unlimited shelf life. There would be a 4-6 week lead time to get the seals from Parker.

 

If interested please e-mail me, Pricing is based on 20 kits if there is enough interest.

on our Ryans Strut and there is a Harvey Swack drawing to convert the Pt22[Claude Ryan copied the Great Lakes Strut for his STA and the Pt-21/22 strut shortening them.
Parker[Hannifin] Squeeze seal old number  25001375; new number I think is N651250013755375
then "O" ring[three of them] 1 3/8 ID

    The PT22 main strut used rope seal under the top gland nut as a packing. The rope seal is getting hard to find so Steve Freedman came up with a more modern approach for sealing. The following seals can be purchased at SealSales.com & American Seal and Packing Company located in California;

I think I'm interested, too.

  • But, I have a 1929 2T-1A  (since upgraded to a -2 equivalent with AEIO Lycoming + Hartzell prop) with the original struts.
  • Will the seals you list in your note likely fit my struts?

One kit will do two struts. (22.50/ea per strut) Each kit will include 2ea. Parker # 42081801437 B312 symmetrical lip seal and 12 Viton O-rings. The Viton is an upgrade from the MS28775-324 O-ring. Viton is impervious to almost any fluid used in aircraft and it has an unlimited shelf life. There would be a 4-6 week lead time to get the seals from Parker.

 

If interested please e-mail me, Pricing is based on 20 kits if there is enough interest.

      they should. you will need to disassemble & make sure the upper cylinder wher the packing sits is smooth & the piston hard chrome that they slide on is in good condition. ck id of cylinder 2" below TOP of threads1.93" & od of piston1.437. see dimentions in photo of blue print. if close these packing should work. they only funtion to keep 5606 fluid in. NOT a pressure seal! Terry, ps there is an alternet  Cheveron style that I can get you the part # for but much harder to find, expensive, & complicated too  install.

      • But, I have a 1929 2T-1A  (since upgraded to a -2 equivalent with AEIO Lycoming + Hartzell prop) with the original struts.

        Are these PT 22 struts?

        If so. The mic 1.45 inches two inches or so down from the threads..

        Make sure you have me down for two sets, so I have on on the shelf to
        use a few years down the road after I get it flying when the first set
        wears out! I plan on flying the heck out of it when I get my
        homebuilt done! I have to catch up to all the years I missed flying!!!

        1.45 or 1.75? what is OD outside threads & at mid cylinder. what od of piston & will they polish up?! the packing needs to slide on the piston & is statioary on the cylinder wall. I am out in cold hangar manufct oil tank supports, will ck drawins when warm after evening meal. they look like PT strust but T Claude Ryan d irectly copied the GL strut as his flying school used GL. cheaper to copy & apply to STA Fork (same as PT w minor dimention dif in spring & cyl length)
         what Jim & I plan is I will make a list. ck it twice.... wait! thats my other personality this season. from yahoo but ask people to verify by emailing me at gtg15751@gmail.com. with mailing address'. then fwd to Jim & he will invoice & ship.
