I have a Ranger powered Great Lakes.  It is a C-5 200HP with about 375 hrs on it.  The "#6 cylinder is cracked.  I am looking for a new  cylinder of course and thinking about sending the others out for a complete top end overhaul.  I was wondering if anyone knows who is still overhauling rangers and/or have spare parts.  I do have two cores but not sure about the condition yet and would rather leave them whole at this point if I can.

thanks,

Matt

Find someone in your part of the country that can do the overhaul. Work through the EAA chapters to help find a overhaul shop that speaks Rangereese. Tear down one of your cores as a donor to get yours overhauled then overhaul and pickle the third. Cores are nice to have but only valuable when they can be used for parts.

Harrison machine still overhauls cylinders.? Antique Aero Engines is no longer taking work but Brad still has lots of parts. I think he s your best bet in that department.? ?I m not sure about Joe Denest lost track of him over the past 5 yrs or so.

If you have cores, pull the jugs and send them to Harrison Machine -? http://www.harrisonengine.com/.? They ll check them for cracks and bring them back to std condition (cerrochrome or Nuchrome) for about $350.? Brad has valves and guides.? You can plan on $450-$500 per cylinder once you re all done. I still have a few NOS pistons here.? I think the supply is pretty much dried up.? Brad Ball engineered some forged pistons for the Ranger that are head and shoulders better than stock.? But I think those were made to order and not stocked.? They are installed in my engine.

Mark Denest can handle all your Ranger needs.  He does beautiful work.  His number is 484-888-8155.  Can you send along some pics of your ranger powered 24?  I am building one.  Thanks.  JON MARTIN

Thanks for the replies.  I will try calling both Harrison and Mark.  Mark I have heard of but was not sure if he was still in the business.

As for pictures I will attach a couple of the aircraft as a whole and a few of the engine mounts, supports, and baffling which is probably what you are most interested in.
