Hello Fellow Great Lakers,

Joe Preston asked me to elaborate on plans for a Warner powered Great Lakes, and I am happy to do so.
There are several 1930s vintage and Experimental registered Great Lakes powered by Warner radial engines. . . . it is a very good combination.   The smooth running seven cylinder Warner engine converts fuel into torque that is music to the ears.
The Warner engine will be installed via a Supplemental Type Certificate on both new production and 70's airframes.  Ideally, the best time to consider a Warner installation is when your Lycoming engine is in need of major overhaul.  Complete details may be found on the 'Great Lakes with a Rumble' and 'M/M/R/O' pages at www.greatlakesaircraftcompany.com.
Many pilots who have flown both 1930s and later production Great Lakes have mentioned that they could tell little or no difference in the roll rate between two or four aileron equipped airframes.  Ailerons on the upper wing add weight, cost, and complexity while providing little additional performance.  Therefore, new production WARNER Great Lakes will have ailerons on the bottom wing only.
A demonstrator Warner Great Lakes will be operational in approximately a year.  Updates will be provided at www.greatlakesaircraftcompany.com.  Contact me if you have an interest in making a good Great Lakes into a great Great Lakes!
Kindest Regards,

I think this is great news. I recall asking Pete about this when he bought the business. Now I can see why it didn t happen.

John, can you tell us a bit about your plans?

Seems I remember John had the TC for the Warner with the idea of new production engines.  I wonder
if this has come to fruition?  On the other hand, Warner parts are almost non-existent.  How did that problem get solved?

I just ran across this link at the Biplane Forum. Brand new Factory GL's with a Warner radial. Maybe John can chime in when he gets some free time.

In the past, many Warner radial engines have been installed on Great Lakes airframes and the combination is an excellent match.
